Price Ranges for Wedding Photography

Budget: $1,000 - $2,000 (Price per hour: ~$100 - $200)
These photographers are just starting their career. Prices are VERY affordable - for a reason. You can roll the dice, you may get lucky with “ok” photos in this category but more than likely, these photographers will not only miss important moments, but also important parts of the day. If you value your wedding photos, it’s best to steer clear of this category.

Average: $2,000 - $4,000 (Price per hour: ~$200 - $400)
These photographers have some experience but haven’t yet reached a truly professional level (although they will advertise themselves as such). You’ll get standard photos capturing the day’s segments but will miss out on great expressions, poses, and timeless candid moments.

Professional/Luxury: $4,000 - $10,000 (Price per hour: ~$400 - $1000)
In this range, you start to see work akin to what’s featured in online and print publications. Expect beautifully captured expressions, well-posed shots, and important candid moments. Branding accounts for most of the variation here.

Ultra-Luxury: $10,000+ (Price per hour: $1000+)
Starting at $10,000, these packages can easily total $20,000 - $50,000 when you include flights, hotels (for destination weddings), additional team members, and printed products. (Yes! Some packages do cost that much!) This category of photographers cater to ultra-high net worth clients such as CEOs and celebrities. The cost is commensurate with the skill level of the team, the deliverables and the fact that they MUST deliver PERFECTION in both the photographs and the client experience.

These numbers were compiled from our survey of approximately 100 wedding photography studios in the GTA and correlates perfectly to research done by bigger companies such as Brides.com, WeddingWire and The Knot, after accounting for the exchange rate and the fact that average photography prices in these studies included a lot of smaller cities and rural areas.
